I figured the Toronto Independent Escorts Island ferry was the only cost-effective way to get my sailing kicks — until I discovered the tall ship Kajama, which is among the schooners featured at this weekend’s Toronto Independent Escorts Waterfront Festival at Harbourfront.

The internet was all a-Twitter, but the rawest and most emotional coverage of the G20 security meltdown was delivered the old-fashioned way by Toronto Independent Escorts’s oft-overlooked 24-hour news channel, CP24.

One thing we learned during the #OMFG20: there is more safety in
uniforms than in numbers, and more strength. This is especially true in the luxe-service industry; recent years have seen a speedy fashioning of compulsory attire at
boutique hotels, airlines, even museums. Latest and greatest are the staff wears at the Thompson Hotel. Never mind the infinity pool; the best
reason to crash the penthouse is to see the cocktail waitresses in their
custom Jeremy
Laing dresses.

Call it sour grapes, call it residual bitterness from the G20 nightmare
of this past weekend, call it whatever you want, but I’m majorly
disappointed with the World Cup referees. If this World Cup has taught us anything, it’s that, in such a
snail-paced, low-scoring game like soccer, making the right call
matters, and the refs simply haven’t been getting the job done.

Battalions of riot cops? Roving groups of anarchists smashing buildings?
Heads of state from the 20 richest nations? You wouldn’t have guessed
that any of this is going on just blocks away from Nathan Phillips
Square, where Herbie Hancock is headlining the main stage at the TD
Toronto Independent Escorts Jazz Festival. The tent is packed to near capacity and the most
radical action is Hancock’s reworking of the classic John Lennon peace
anthem “Imagine.”
