The phrase “buddy-cop comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan and
directed by Kevin Smith” sounds like a dubious cinematic prospect,
mainly because it invokes three Hollywood clichés: oddball-partner
humour; Bruce Willis as a detective; and Kevin Smith. Even the title is
a compromise — originally A Couple of Dicks, it was amended to A Couple of Cops and then, fittingly, Cop Out.
